Here’s a guide to the most beautiful places in Europe to explore by campervan – with real campsites I tested myself.
Traveling Europe by campervan has something of absolute freedom about it.
You stop wherever it’s most beautiful. You drink your morning coffee with a view of mountains or the sea. You drive ahead and discover small towns you’d never even heard of before.
Europe is made for this. The proximity of countries means that within a few hours, the language, cuisine, and landscape change.
One day you can get lost in a medieval town, and the next you’re gazing at a turquoise bay or alpine peaks.
If you dream of a journey where you set the pace of the day, and the views can leave you speechless, a campervan will be perfect.
I’ve prepared a list of places that practically beg for slower travel and mornings in the style of “life is truly beautiful.”
I hope you’ll find inspiration here for your next European adventure. Happy reading.
In some European countries (like Croatia), boondocking or wild camping is regulated or not allowed, so in this guide I focused on atmospheric, well-located campsites I truly recommend.
They make the perfect, stress-free base for exploring the area – peaceful, comfortable, and surrounded by nature.

1. Island of Krk, Croatia – Turquoise Coves and Peaceful Towns
The Island of Krk is Croatia slightly off the beaten path. A place where the sea shimmers in all shades of turquoise, and small towns smell of wine and salt.
There’s something raw, peaceful, and very summery about it – ideal for an unhurried campervan journey.
Mountains descend right to the water here, coves are small and quiet, and the Adriatic is so clear you can count the stones on the bottom.
Mornings can be golden and peaceful, and evenings have that Mediterranean ease that’s so easy to learn.
What to See on Krk Island
This is an island for discovering day by day. You can get lost in the narrow streets of Baška, sit for a while on a beach that looks like a scene from a vacation movie.
In Vrbnik, try the local Žlahtina wine and peek into small cellars where time flows differently. And in Krk town, climb the walls of Frankopan Castle and feel the history that truly lives here.
Krk is simple, beautiful, and very rewarding for campervan travel. The perfect place to slow down and remember how good summer tastes.

Where to Park Your Campervan on Krk Island
If you dream of a peaceful base close to the sea, Camping Omišalj will be a perfect choice.
This is a place where you wake up with a view of the Adriatic, and in the evening you can sit on a lounger and watch the sun disappear behind the horizon.
The pitches are spacious, campervans park really comfortably here, and the whole place has modern facilities – a pool, restaurant, good sanitary facilities.
There’s everything you need so that after a full day of beaching or exploring Mediterranean towns, you can simply rest.
It’s a great base if you want to discover the island’s most beautiful beaches and those small, atmospheric corners of Krk that taste best without rushing. The perfect combination of nature and comfort.

2. Catalonia, Spain – Sea, Mountains, and Mediterranean Ease
Catalonia is Spain with a different taste – it smells of the sea, sun-warmed pines, and fresh fruit from the morning markets.
It has both rugged mountains and quiet coves and cities pulsing with life. It’s a region where a campervan really makes sense, because every day can look completely different.
On one side the Pyrenees – majestic, cool, ideal for morning treks. On the other, Costa Brava with cliffs and sapphire-colored water.
And further Costa Dorada – golden beaches, perfect for a few hours of lazy afternoon.
The Most Beautiful Places in Catalonia for a Campervan Trip
Catalonia is full of places you simply want to see.
- Tossa de Mar – with a castle that looks like something from a fairy tale.
- Sitges – white houses, artistic atmosphere, and that radiant ease.
- Tarragona – Roman ruins with a sea view.
- Besalú – a town that looks transported from another era.
- Cadaqués – white facades and that same seaside lightness that inspired Dalí.
If you love mountains, Montserrat is a must-stop. If nature – the Ebro River delta enchants with peace, birds, and sunset light that looks like a filter without a filter.
Catalonia is diverse, intense, and very rewarding for campervan travel. It’s a place where you can truly combine discovery with rest.

Where to Stay in Your Campervan on the Costa Dorada
If you dream of a campsite where you walk straight out onto the sand in the morning, Tamarit Beach Resort will be the perfect place.
It lies right by the wide, golden beach of Costa Dorada – the kind where the sun reflects off the waves like a mirror by eight in the morning.
The pitches here are really nice: some stand practically right by the water, others are hidden in pleasant tree shade. You simply choose the atmosphere that suits you best.
Everything is well-maintained, comfortable, and has that vacation ease that makes the day start slower and nicer.
It’s a great base if you want to explore Tarragona, travel between beaches, or just stop for a moment and rest. The perfect place for a campervan reset.

3. Istria, Croatia – Towns Like Postcards and Cuisine Full of Flavor
Istria is Croatia that’s easy to fall in love with. It has something Italian about it and something entirely its own.
Raw rocks descending to turquoise sea, pine-scented hills, and towns that look painted in watercolor.
This is a place made for campervan travel – slow, savored, full of small delights.
You can drive from cove to cove here, stop at beaches with crystal-clear water, and discover towns where life flows at a calm, southern rhythm.
What to See in Istria
Istria also has beautiful history. The amphitheater in Pula looks as if someone cut it out of Rome and placed it right by the sea.
The Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč shimmers with gold and light. Each of these places tells a story you feel more than in guidebooks.
And the cuisine… is a separate reason to come here. Truffles from Motovun, olive oil from local groves, fresh seafood, pasta with seafood or octopus carpaccio – Istria is one big feast.
Rovinj seduces with narrow streets, pastel facades, and cafes with sea views. Motovun enchants with silence, wine, and a panorama that spreads to the horizon.
It’s a place where you really slow down. Perfect for a campervan journey full of light, flavors, and those moments you remember for a long time.

It’s a campsite with real atmosphere – peaceful, well-maintained, located right by the Adriatic, with a view that looks painted in the morning.
I stayed there myself and recommend it wholeheartedly. The pitches are comfortable, plenty of space, lots of greenery, and you’re literally steps from the beach.
You can spend days discovering small coves, and evenings on walks along the sea or dinner at one of the restaurants on the campsite.
Additional plus? The proximity of Vrsar – a small, romantic town that Casanova supposedly loved. And it’s really easy to understand why. It’s the perfect place for a quiet evening and a glass of local wine.
Porto Sole combines comfort with nature and has that vacation ease that fits Istria so well.

4. Dolomites, Italy – Spectacular Peaks and Turquoise Lakes
The Dolomites are one of those places where nature leaves the deepest impression.
Mountains look carved with a chisel here, mornings are cool and smell of resin, and lakes have a color that’s hard to describe with one word.
This is an ideal destination for a campervan journey that stays in memory for a very long time.
It’s a region made for those who love space and movement. Trails stretch for kilometers here, views change constantly, and every road turn can be a small wow.

It’s worth taking a trek through Alpe di Siusi – a huge, green plateau surrounded by soaring peaks.
In Bolzano, try local flavors that combine Italy with Austria. And on Lago di Braies, take a wooden boat ride on water so turquoise it looks like a filter in real life.
Lago di Carezza is one of those places where silence has a special color. Seceda, on the other hand, mesmerizes with a view you’ll remember for years.
The Dolomites are beautiful in a minimalist and monumental way simultaneously. Perfect if you dream of a journey full of nature, light, and those landscapes that truly do something to you.
If you’re craving more Dolomites magic, I shared plenty of extra places, lakes and scenic spots in my article – you’ll find the whole list and all the inspiration inside.

Just a few steps to find yourself on alpine meadows where it smells of grass and resin. Sunsets have a color here that’s hard to repeat with one word.
It’s a place that makes it easy to slow down, catch your breath, and truly feel the Dolomites. Perfect for shared moments, long walks, and those evening conversations best held in nature’s embrace.

5. Lake Bled, Slovenia – Fairy-Tale Scenery and Perfect Conditions for Rest
Lake Bled is one of those places that look taken from a fairy tale. Turquoise water, mountains reflecting in the lake’s mirror, and a small island with a white church in the middle.
Everything together creates scenery so beautiful that on the first day it’s hard to stop taking photos.
You can reach the island by traditional wooden boat. It’s a short cruise, but there’s something symbolic about it – as if a passage to another, calmer world.
What to See at Lake Bled
Bled is also great for active recreation. You can bike around the lake, jump into the water on a hot day, or paddle out to the middle by kayak and just let everything quiet down.
And if you like viewpoints, Osojnica will be a perfect shot. The panorama of the lake from this hill is one of Slovenia’s most recognizable views and truly impresses in person.
Over everything towers Bled Castle, standing on a rock like the lake’s guardian. It’s worth going up there just for the view alone.
It’s a place perfect for campervan travel – peaceful, picturesque, and full of those moments that stay in memory for a long time.

Best Campsite at Lake Bled
If you want to wake up in one of Slovenia’s most beautiful corners, choose Camping Bled. It’s a campsite located right by the lake, surrounded by greenery and mountains that look like a misty watercolor in the morning.

You can swim here, bike, try water sports, or simply sit on a blanket and watch how light changes the water’s color.
The place works well both for couples seeking romantic mornings and families who want to be close to nature but in comfortable conditions.
Camping Bled has the peace that perfectly fits this lake.

6. Tuscany, Italy – Vineyards, Hills, and Slow Travel Italian-Style
Tuscany is a place you keep thinking about long after leaving.
Hills rolling like the sea, cypresses standing in even lines, vineyards bathed in afternoon sun, and towns that look like living postcards.
This is one of those destinations where a campervan really makes sense – because every road turn can lead to another small delight.
Tuscany’s Most Beautiful Towns for a Campervan Trip
Florence is art, history, and that specific Italian rhythm that draws you in from the first walk through the old town. The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore impresses even when you’ve seen hundreds of temples.
Siena has something theatrical about it. Piazza del Campo is beautiful at any time of day, and in summer, when Palio takes place, the whole city pulses with emotion.
San Gimignano enchants as always – narrow streets, tall towers, and ice cream that really is some of the best in Italy.
Lucca charms with peace and the fact that you can bike along its walls. Monteriggioni looks like the perfect set for a medieval film.
Tuscany is a place where you can drive without a plan and still find something beautiful. Perfect for a campervan journey full of light, flavors, and slow mornings with a view of hills.

Located on hills, with beautiful views of Tuscan greenery, it gives exactly what you want from vacation in this part of Italy – space, peace, and a bit of dolce vita.
There are pools here where it’s pleasant to immerse yourself after a hot day, a small wellness area with sauna and jacuzzi, and in season the campsite pulses with life: evening programs, music, cooking classes, children’s activities.
The location is also ideal – between Florence, Siena, and Pisa.
So you can explore as much as your heart desires, then return to your spot among the hills and end the day with a glass of local wine under the Tuscan sky.
Norcenni Girasole has everything that makes Tuscany taste even better.

7. High Tatras, Slovakia – Mountains with Character and Trails for Everyone
The High Tatras are the kind of mountains that enchant you from the very first moment. Raw, majestic, full of space and light.
Perfect for a campervan journey when you dream of cooler air, spectacular views, and closeness to nature in its purest form.
What to See in the High Tatras
Gerlach towers over the entire range like a guardian of the Carpathians. Lomnický štít, which you can reach by cable car, offers a panorama where it’s truly hard to say anything.
Every trail here leads through forests smelling of resin, through valleys, gorges, and lakes looking like glass.
Štrbské Pleso is one of the prettiest places in all the Tatras – a calm water surface, peaks reflecting in it, and paths perfect for a slower, relaxing walk.
When you catch a sunset, the lake looks frozen in time.
The Tatras are also hospitality and flavors that fit mountains like nowhere else. Hot fazuľovica after trekking tastes like a reward, and halušky with bryndza can warm you up even after a cool, windy day.
It’s a place for a journey that truly lets you breathe. Perfect for those who want to combine active recreation with campervan freedom and peace.

Campsite Perfect for Mountain Hikes
Autocamping Podlesok is a great base if you want to feel the Tatras really close, but at the same time have a comfortable place to return to after a full day on trails.
The campsite lies in a peaceful, green area, right next to Suchá Belá gorge, so nature practically starts at the doorstep here.
The pitches are spacious, there’s access to electricity, good sanitary facilities, and space for a campfire or grill.
In the evening, when it gets quiet, you only hear the forest – perfect atmosphere for dinner under the clouds and planning the next mountain routes.
Thanks to its great location, Podlesok works well for both short, easy walks and longer High Tatras treks.
It’s one of those places where the campervan stands like at home, and you can fully enjoy the mountain charms.

8. Emilia-Romagna, Italy – Flavorful Region Full of Vineyards and Italian Atmosphere
Emilia-Romagna is such a piece of Italy that often escapes travelers heading straight to Tuscany, and it’s a shame – because this region can charm in its quiet, very Italian way.
It has elegance, great cuisine, and towns where time flows slower than anywhere else.
The Most Interesting Places in Emilia-Romagna
Modena enchants with the peace of streets, pastel townhouses, and that characteristic, slightly sweet smell of balsamic floating in the air.
Bologna is a city under arcades – full of history, students, great eateries, and colors that change with the time of day.
Parma is delicate, harmonious, and tastes of prosciutto better than anywhere else.
This is a region made for feasting. Parmigiano–reggiano, authentic balsamic vinegar aging for years, ragù that cooks slowly and smells up the whole house, and lambrusco that tastes best on a warm Italian evening.
And when you feel like something more idyllic, take your campervan to Castelvetro di Modena.
This hilltop town looks like a film set – cobblestone streets, vineyard views, and that calm Italian rhythm you enter immediately.
Emilia-Romagna is the perfect destination for a campervan journey when you dream of authenticity, flavors, and Italian everyday life without crowds.

A Soulful Place to Stay Among the Vineyards
If you dream of accommodation in a place with soul, definitely stop at the family winery Azienda Agricola Toni – Vini Toni.

Here you truly feel that everything is made with heart.

It’s such a stop that stays in memory – simple, authentic, and very Italian.
