Krabi Thailand Itinerary: A Calm 5-Day Travel Plan

co zobaczyć na krabi

Planning a trip to Thailand and looking for the perfect 5-day Krabi Thailand itinerary? This is one of those regions that’s easy to like, but even easier to… rush through too quickly.

That’s why I created this relaxed, five-day travel plan that lets you actually feel this place, instead of just checking it off your list.

Krabi is a mix that works effortlessly. Sure, there are beautiful beaches in Ao Nang, limestone cliffs rising straight from the sea, and the Phi Phi Islands that look like postcards.

But there’s also everyday life, local food, warm evenings, and moments when it’s best to just sit down and plan nothing at all.

In this guide, I’m sharing places truly worth seeing in Krabi, along with practical tips that make travel easier: how to get here, when’s the best time to visit, and where to stay so you don’t waste energy on logistics.

If you’re up for Krabi at a relaxed pace, without rushing and without the pressure to “see everything” – come on. Let’s start.

Day 1: Krabi Town

Arrival in Krabi and First Moments in Town

After arriving in Krabi, it’s worth staying in Krabi Town itself. It’s a good place for a peaceful start to your journey and getting familiar with the region before heading to the beaches and islands.

Krabi Town has a local, somewhat raw character. It’s a town where residents’ everyday life unfolds.

It’s worth wandering aimlessly through the surrounding streets, stopping by the market, noticing the traditional architecture, and simply catching the rhythm of the place.

After checking in and a short rest, it’s time to start exploring the area.

Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple)

The first important point of the day is visiting the Buddhist temple Wat Tham Suea, known as Tiger Cave Temple.

This is one of the most distinctive places around Krabi, both spiritually and scenically.

The temple is famous for its cave, which according to legends contains tiger paw prints, and for its impressive Buddha statues. The biggest challenge, however, is climbing to the top.

There are 1,237 steep steps to conquer. The climb can be demanding, but the view stretching across the entire area definitely rewards the effort.

Lunch in Krabi Town

After returning from Wat Tham Sua, it’s worth planning lunch in Krabi Town. A good choice is the local restaurant Ko Tung, known for simple but very good Chinese-Thai dishes.

On the menu, look out for classic stir-fry chicken, braised pork, and gaeng som pla, a spicy-sour soup typical of southern Thailand.

If you want something more filling, try the crab curry with rice noodles.

To finish, I recommend stopping by Easy Cafe. It’s a good place for dessert and a moment of rest with aromatic coffee before ending your first day in Krabi with a peaceful evening.

Exploring Krabi Town

The afternoon is worth dedicating to peaceful exploration of Krabi Town. A good starting point is the distinctive Khao Khanab Nam rocks, which have become one of the city’s symbols.

They rise on both sides of the river and are best viewed without rushing, letting the landscape do its thing.

Later, head for a walk down Walking Street. It’s a place full of small stalls, local shops, and the city’s everyday life.

You don’t need to look for anything specific here. Just walk ahead, stopping wherever something catches your attention.

At the end of the day, visit the Riverside area. It’s a good space to slow down, sit for a moment, and look at the river and surrounding mountains.

Especially in the evening, this is one of the more pleasant places in Krabi Town.

Visit to the Night Market

In the evening, definitely stop by the local night market. It’s a place that truly comes alive after dark and where you can best taste southern Thailand.

Food stalls stretch one after another, and aromas float in the air.

It’s the perfect opportunity to try classics of Thai street food, like pad thai, satay, or som tam – spicy green papaya salad.

Food is eaten here without hurry, often standing or on plastic chairs, watching local life around you.

The night market is a good way to close the first day in Krabi. No plan, no pressure, exactly the way I like it best.

Practical Tips

  • Getting from the Airport to Krabi Town:
    • Shuttle bus: 90-150 THB per person
    • Taxi: 300-800 THB
  • Entry Fees:
    • Wat Tham Sua: Free
  • Opening Hours:
    • Night Market: Fridays 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Saturdays and Sundays 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM
    • Wat Tham Sua Temple: Daily 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Make sure to dress appropriately for the temple – shoulders and knees should be covered.
  • What to Bring:
    • Water bottle: This reusable water bottle keeps your drink cold all day.
    • Hiking shoes: These are my go-to for comfort and support.
    • Hat: This bucket hat offers sun protection and a stylish touch.

Day 2: Railay Beach

Transfer to Ao Nang

On the second morning, it’s worth moving to Ao Nang, which will become your base for the next few days. It’s a more touristy part of Krabi, but also very convenient.

You’ll find plenty of restaurants, accommodations, and easy access to boats and tours around the area.

Ao Nang isn’t a place that impresses at first sight, but it works great as a base. This is where it’s easiest to simplify logistics and focus on just being by the water.

Boat Trip to Railay Beach

After checking in at Ao Nang, jump on a longtail boat and sail to Railay Beach. The journey takes only about 15 minutes, and the landscape change is immediate.

Railay is one of those places that looks exactly how you remember from postcards – limestone cliffs rising straight from the sea, light sand, and a calmer atmosphere.

It’s a good place for lazy swimming, snorkeling, and observing underwater life. With a bit of luck, you’ll see colorful fish and reef fragments in really clear water.

It’s also worth walking to Phranang Cave Beach. There’s a cave with unusual offerings made to the fertility goddess. This place has its own rhythm and specific energy.

Regardless of how you approach local beliefs, it’s good to slow down for a moment and simply observe.

Railay tastes best without rushing. You don’t need to do much here. Just stay, look around, and let the day unfold on its own.

Krabi Thailand Itinerary
Railay Beach, Krabi

Sunset at Ao Nang Beach

After returning from Railay, it’s worth walking along Ao Nang Beach and stopping for a moment at sunset. This is one of those moments when the day naturally slows down.

The sun slowly hides behind the horizon, light reflects in the waters of the Andaman Sea, and the sky changes colors minute by minute.

You don’t need to plan anything here. Just sit on the sand or lean against the railing by the promenade and let this view happen on its own.

If you like photography, this is a good moment for a few shots, but you can just as easily simply watch.

Dinner in Ao Nang

Evening is best ended with dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants.

If you’re in the mood for Thai cuisine, a good choice is Red Chilli Thai Cuisine, serving classic, well-seasoned dishes.

And if you’re drawn toward more European flavors that day, Reeve Beach Club Krabi works as a peaceful place for dinner with a sea view.

Ao Nang in the evening is louder than Krabi Town, but with the right table, you can still find your own peaceful rhythm of the day.

Practical Tips

  • Getting from Krabi Town to Ao Nang:
    • Songthaew (local taxi): 50-80 THB per person
    • Private transfer: 300-800 THB
  • Longtail Boat to Railay Beach:
    • One way: 100 THB
    • Round trip: 200 THB
  • Boats from Ao Nang to Railay Beach run from 8:00 AM until sunset.
  • The last boat leaves Railay Beach around 6:00 PM.
  • What to Pack:
    • Sunscreen: I swear by this sunscreen – it’s perfect for all-day protection.
    • Towel: This quick-dry towel is a must – it packs small and dries fast.
    • Waterproof bag: Keep your valuables safe with this waterproof dry bag.

Day 3: Phi Phi Islands

Day Trip to the Phi Phi Islands

Day three is best started early. Around 8:00am is a good time to set out for a full-day trip around the Phi Phi archipelago.

The earlier you go, the better chance you’ll see these islands at a more peaceful pace, before more boats arrive.

Phi Phi are small islands located in the Andaman Sea, between Krabi and Phuket. They’re very photogenic – steep cliffs, clear water, and bays that often appear in photos promoting Thailand.

It’s also a good place for snorkeling and short stops by the water, especially if you catch a day with good visibility.

However, it’s worth remembering that Phi Phi is popular and can be crowded. It’s best to treat this day as a landscape experience, not a chase for the “perfect shot.”

Sometimes it’s enough to sit on the boat, watch the changing coastline, and let this day simply happen.

Krabi Thailand Itinerary
Maya Bay, Krabi

Exploring Maya Bay

Exploring the archipelago is worth starting from Phi Phi Leh – the smallest but most recognizable island in the area.

This is where Maya Bay is located, a bay surrounded by steep cliffs, with light sand and water that has an almost unreal color on a sunny day.

Maya Bay gained worldwide popularity in the late ’90s when it became the filming location for The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio. Since then, it’s been one of the most visited places in Thailand.

Today, swimming in the bay is prohibited, aimed at protecting the delicate ecosystem and reef restoration.

Still, it’s worth visiting. It’s best to treat this place as a brief landscape observation, not a point to “check off.”

Stop for a moment, look at the space around you, and remember that nature sets the rules here. The more mindfulness, the better chance Maya Bay will remain beautiful for others too.

Lunch on Phi Phi Don

After visiting Phi Phi Leh, boats usually head to Phi Phi Don, the largest island in the archipelago and the only one permanently inhabited.

It’s a good place for a break, a meal, and a moment of normalcy after intense views.

For lunch, it’s worth choosing something simple and local. Places like The Mango Garden or Phi Phi Don Cafe and Restaurant work well, serving classic Thai dishes in a calmer atmosphere.

It’s a good moment to sit down, eat without rushing, and disconnect from the tour pace for a while.

Visiting Monkey Beach

During the cruise on the Andaman Sea, there’s often a short stop at Monkey Beach, located northwest of Loh Dalam Bay.

It’s a small, light beach, surrounded by greenery, that looks very innocent from afar.

With a bit of luck, you can meet macaques here that have gotten used to human presence and often approach closer, hoping for food.

However, it’s worth keeping your distance. These are wild animals, not an attraction for petting or feeding.

It’s best to observe them from afar, watch your belongings, and not pull out food. Monkey Beach is more a quick stop for viewing and reflection than a place for a longer stay.

Sometimes less is more, even in places like this.

Krabi Thailand Itinerary
Monkey Beach, Krabi

Exploring Viking Cave

Another point on the route is Viking Cave, one of those places usually viewed from boat level. It’s famous for bird’s nest harvesting from swiftlets, collected by local residents for centuries.

The nests go mainly to China, where they’re used to prepare one of the world’s most expensive soups. It’s a fragment of local history and tradition that raises mixed emotions today.

It’s worth treating this place more as a point of observation and reflection than an attraction in itself.

Return to Ao Nang, Dinner and Night Market

Around 5:00pm, boats return to Ao Nang. It’s a good moment to slow down after an intense day on the water, take a shower, and go out for dinner.

If you feel like good Thai cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, Jungle Kitchen will be a solid choice.

And if the day isn’t over for you yet, it’s worth stopping by the night market. It’s a place where food smells, conversations, and background music mix.

The night market in Ao Nang is a good opportunity to try simple local dishes, buy a small souvenir, and feel the evening rhythm of the city, without plans and without rushing.

Practical Tips

  • Phi Phi Tour:
    • Organized tour: 1,300-1,800 THB per person
    • Speed boat: 1,500-2,000 THB per person
  • National Park Entry Fee: 400 THB per person
  • Tours usually kick off between 7:30 and 9:00 AM.
  • Due to nature protection, Maya Bay can only be visited for limited time, and tourist numbers are controlled. Swimming in the bay remains prohibited.
  • What to Pack:
    • Sunscreen: I swear by this sunscreen – it’s perfect for all-day protection.
    • Towel: This quick-dry towel is a must – it packs small and dries fast.
    • Sunglasses: These are stylish and provide great UV protection.
    • Snorkeling gear: This set is comfy and perfect for underwater adventures.

Day 4: Pools and Hot Springs

Visit to the Emerald Pool

Day four is best started really early. Around 7:00am, it’s worth heading from Ao Nang toward Emerald Pool, a natural pool located about 1-1.5 hours from town.

The earlier you arrive, the better chance you’ll see this place at a more peaceful pace.

After arrival, head straight toward the pool. In the morning, there are few tourists, and the soft light makes the colors of water and surrounding greenery look even more intense.

The walk through the jungle takes about 20-30 minutes. The trail is well-marked and leads through dense, tropical vegetation, which is part of the experience itself.

At the end, a natural pool with a characteristic emerald color awaits. It’s a good place to stop for a moment, immerse yourself in the water, and simply be among nature, without conversations and without rushing.

A Stop at the Blue Pool

From Emerald Pool, it’s worth continuing toward Blue Pool, about 20 minutes away. This place looks almost unreal – intensely blue water contrasts with the surrounding jungle greenery.

Swimming in Blue Pool is prohibited, aimed at protecting this delicate ecosystem.

It’s best to treat this point as a brief landscape observation and a place for a few peaceful shots, without entering crowds.

Lunch at a Local Restaurant

After morning walks and heat, it’s good to plan a simple lunch nearby. It’s worth stopping by Ruean Morakot Restaurant, where classic Thai dishes are served at reasonable prices.

It’s a good place to sit in the shade, eat something substantial, and give your body a moment of rest before the next part of the day.

Krabi Thailand Itinerary
Thai Papaya Salad

Relax at Saline Hot Spring

The next stop is Saline Hot Spring, hidden among jungle greenery. It’s a natural spa, with several pools at different temperatures, usually between 35-40 degrees Celsius.

After a morning spent in the forest and by water, this is a good moment to really slow down.

It’s best to treat this place without rushing, but with awareness. In each pool, it’s worth staying maximum 15-20 minutes, taking breaks and listening to your body. This isn’t a place for “checking off,” only for regeneration.

Evening in Ao Nang

After returning to Ao Nang, the rest of the day can be left without plans. A walk along the beach, a moment by the water, or a peaceful sunset often suffice to close the day.

If you feel like dinner, a good choice would be Ra Beung Lay Seafood Restaurant Aqua Beach, where fresh seafood is served in a relaxed, seaside atmosphere.

And if the day left you with a bit more energy, you can stop by for a drink at one of the beach bars or simply stay on the sand and watch the sky slowly darken.

This day is best ended without a watch.

Practical Tips

  • Getting to Emerald Pool:
    • Private transfer: 1,000-1,500 THB for the whole day
    • Guided tour: 800-1,200 THB per person
  • Entry Fees:
    • Emerald Pool & Blue Pool: 400-500 THB
    • Saline Hot Spring: 140-200 THB
  • Opening Hours:
    • Emerald Pool and Blue Pool: usually available from early morning until late afternoon.
    • Saline Hot Spring: usually from around 5:00am until evening.
  • What to Pack:
    • Mosquito repellent: This one works wonders – keeps the bugs away all day.
    • Towel: This quick-dry towel is a must – it packs small and dries fast.
    • Waterproof shoes: These are super comfy and perfect for wet or rocky conditions.

Day 5: James Bond Island

Heading to James Bond Island (Ko Ta Pu)

The last day in Krabi is worth starting quite early. Around 7:30am is a good time to set out by traditional long boat toward Ao Phang Nga National Park.

The journey itself is as important as the destination. The cruise leads through calm waters, between green-covered hills that slowly emerge from morning mist.

One of the stops is Ko Ta Pu, more widely known as James Bond Island.

The distinctive, about 20-meter rock formation rises almost vertically from turquoise water and became recognizable thanks to the James Bond film with Roger Moore.

Today it’s one of the most photographed places in the region.

However, it’s worth trying to look at this place not only through the film’s lens. The most interesting thing here is the combination of silence, water, and landscape that looks almost unreal.

Instead of rushing and perfect shots, it’s better to give yourself a moment for a peaceful walk around the area, a short swim, and observing the space around you.

This is a good closure to the Krabi journey. Without big emotions, rather with a feeling that everything has resonated and nothing needs to be added.

Kayaking and Cave Exploring

If you’re in the mood for something more intimate, it’s worth taking a short kayak trip around Phang Nga Bay.

It’s one of the more pleasant ways to get to know this region up close. No engines, no noise, just paddles and water.

Kayaks allow you to enter places inaccessible to larger boats – narrow passages, small caves, and bays hidden between rocks.

Limestone rock formations viewed from water level make a completely different impression than from the boat deck. It’s a good moment to slow down even more and let yourself be guided by the landscape.

Visit to Koh Panyi Fishing Village

The next stop is Koh Panyi, a small village built on stilts, literally over water. It was established in the late 18th century when Indonesian fishermen settled here.

Today about 360 families live here, mainly descendants of a Muslim community from Java.

Although fishing was the basis of life for years, tourism now plays an increasingly important role.

Walking through the village is a good opportunity to see the everyday life of a place that functions according to completely different rules than mainland cities.

It’s worth noticing the soccer field built on water. It’s the symbol of Koh Panyi and also proof of how creatively people can adapt living in such unusual conditions.

The local soccer team is known throughout the region.

Lunch in Koh Panyi

After walking through the village, it’s worth taking a lunch break. Koh Panyi has several simple restaurants serving halal dishes that fit well with the local character of the place.

If you’re looking for something proven and uncomplicated, you can stop by Ko Panyi Village Restaurant or New Fern Restaurant & Sea Canoe. The food here is fresh, portions are substantial, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

It’s a good moment to sit down, eat without rushing, and rest for a moment before continuing.

Krabi Thailand Itinerary

Evening in Ao Nang

After returning to the hotel, the last evening in Ao Nang is best left without plans. A walk on the beach, small shopping at local stalls, or a short Thai massage suffice to close the day and the entire journey.

You can have dinner at one of the beachfront restaurants. It’s often accompanied by a fire show, which you watch more in the background than as the main attraction.

The most important thing is that feeling that nothing needs to be done or seen anymore.

This is a good moment to look at the sea one more time, remember the light and sounds of the evening. Krabi says goodbye best just like this, peacefully, without rushing.

Practical Tips

  • National Park Entry Fee: 300-400 THB per person
  • Tours usually last around 8 to 9 hours, and it’s best to book the day before!
  • What to Pack:
    • Sunscreen: I swear by this sunscreen – it’s perfect for all-day protection.
    • Towel: This quick-dry towel is a must – it packs small and dries fast.
    • Waterproof phone case: This one keeps your phone safe and dry, even in the water.

When’s the Best Time to Visit Krabi

The best time to travel to Krabi falls between November and March. This is when weather is most stable, temperatures usually range between 24-32°C, and rainfall is minimal.

The sea is calmer, and conditions for cruises and snorkeling are definitely better.

I was in Krabi in December and it was a very good choice. Days were sunny, sky almost cloudless, and boat trips went smoothly. It’s one of those months when everything simply works.

In April and May, it gets very hot, and with rising temperatures comes the transition period before the rainy season.

From June to October, you need to expect more frequent rainfall, rough seas, and possible trip cancellations, especially to the islands.

It’s also worth remembering that December and January are peak tourist season. Accommodation prices are higher then, and popular places more crowded, but in return you get the best weather of the year.

If you want a more peaceful rhythm and slightly lower prices, a good compromise would be November or February. Weather still favors traveling, and Krabi breathes a bit slower then.

Where’s the Best Place to Stay in Krabi

Krabi offers plenty of accommodation options and everything depends on how you want to experience this trip.

A stay close to beaches and tours will look different than in a local town, and different still on Railay, cut off from mainland. Each of these options makes sense – just for different people.

Ao Nang

Ao Nang is the most “practical” base in Krabi. There’s everything you need for vacation: beach, restaurants, shops, massages, and very easy access to island cruises.

It’s a good place if you want everything at hand and don’t want to waste energy on logistics.

Ao Nang can be louder and more touristy, but in return offers convenience and flexibility. You’ll easily find both simple accommodations and more comfortable hotels.

Recommended Hotels in Ao Nang:

  • The Dream Garden – simple, cozy rooms with air conditioning, close to beach. Good standard at reasonable price.
  • Mini House Aonang – intimate property with large, comfortable rooms and very friendly service.

Krabi Town

If you want a calmer rhythm and local atmosphere, Krabi Town will be a great choice.

This is where I stayed, and this is the vibe I remember most strongly – morning markets, regular streets, and the feeling that you’re closer to everyday life than tourist scenery.

Krabi Town is a good base, especially for the first days, and accommodation prices are usually lower than in Ao Nang.

Recommended Places in Krabi Town:

Railay Beach

Railay is the option for those who really want to slow down. Accessible only by boat, cut off from street traffic, with beaches and cliffs that impress from day one.

It’s a good place for the end of your trip or a few days of total reset. Accommodations are more expensive here, but in return you get silence, nature, and very intense contact with the landscape.

How to Get to Krabi

Krabi is well connected with other parts of Thailand and you can easily get here in several ways. The choice mainly depends on how much time you have and where you’re starting from.

By Plane

The fastest way to reach Krabi is by flying into Krabi Airport (KBV). From the airport, it’s easy to get to both Ao Nangand Krabi Town by taxi or local bus.

Flights from Bangkok usually take around 1 hour and 20-30 minutes, while flights from Chiang Mai take approximately 1.5-2 hours.

Ticket prices can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book. If you plan ahead, it’s often possible to find very good deals, while prices tend to rise during the high season.

This is the most convenient option if you’d rather avoid long journeys and want to reach the coast quickly and comfortably.

By Bus

Traveling by bus is a good option if you’re moving at a slower pace, have more time, or want to keep your budget low.

From Bangkok, the journey to Krabi usually takes around 10-12 hours, with ticket prices starting from a few hundred baht, depending on the bus standard and season.

From Phuket, the trip is much shorter – typically 3-4 hours – and is one of the more affordable ways to travel between the two regions.

While buses are less comfortable than flying, they offer a chance to see a different side of Thailand and to move between destinations at a more relaxed pace.

By Ferry

If you’re already in southern Thailand, traveling by ferry can be a lovely way to reach Krabi. It’s a slower option, but one that lets you enjoy the coastline and ease into the rhythm of the journey.

Ferries from Phuket usually take several hours, while crossings from Koh Lanta are much shorter, often around one hour.

Ticket prices vary depending on the operator and season, but ferries remain one of the more relaxed and accessible ways to travel in this part of Thailand.

Choose this option if you see the journey not just as transportation, but as part of the experience.

My Experience

I reached Krabi from Koh Samui. First, I sailed by ferry (about 1.5 hours), then continued by bus for another 3-4 hours.

It was a longer route, but fit well into the peaceful rhythm of this journey.

How to Get Around Krabi

Getting around Krabi is quite simple and doesn’t require much planning. Everything depends on how mobile you want to be and whether you prefer convenience or independence.

Songthaew

Local, open vehicles serving as public transport.

It’s one of the cheapest options for shorter routes, for example between Krabi Town and Ao Nang. Rides are frequent, and journeys short and problem-free.

Grab and Taxis

Good option if you don’t feel like negotiating prices or waiting. Grab works better and better in Krabi and lets you conveniently order a ride through the app.

Works especially well in evenings or when traveling with luggage.

Scooters

If you like exploring on your own terms, a scooter gives the most freedom. Rental cost is usually around 150-200 THB per day.

However, remember about helmets and be careful, especially on less-traveled roads.

Longtail Boats

Traditional boats are an inseparable element of getting around Krabi. They work perfectly for short crossings, for example from Ao Nang to Railay Beach.

It’s a quick and simple way, and one of the nicer moments of the entire journey.

Krabi Stays With You for a Long Time

I remember my last evening in Ao Nang. I was sitting on the beach, the sun had already set, and the sky was slowly darkening. Around me, I could hear conversations, laughter, and gentle water lapping.

For five days I’d been crossing islands, climbing cliffs, kayaking, and trying everything at the stalls.

But only then, in that peaceful moment on the sand, I understood that Krabi doesn’t work through a “must-see” list and pace.

This place shows its best side when you stop rushing. When you allow yourself a second coffee at the same café. When you stay on the beach “just a bit longer,” which turns into an hour.

When you skip the next tour because you simply want to do nothing today.

Krabi taught me that traveling doesn’t have to be a race. That the best memories often have nothing to do with attractions, only with moments you didn’t plan.
