While you’re there, make sure to catch the Ramayana Ballet. It’s an incredible show that brings Indonesian dance traditions to life.

And if you’re feeling creative, try your hand at batik, a traditional fabric painting technique that’s both fun and a great souvenir.

Wrap up your visit at the Sultan’s Palace in Yogyakarta. It’s a must-see spot that lets you step back in time and soak up the island’s royal vibes.

The landscapes on Java are seriously breathtaking. From majestic volcanoes and endless rice fields to gorgeous plantations, there’s so much beauty to take in.

One of the highlights of my trip was catching the sunrise at Mount Bromo. The view was absolutely unreal!

Cons of Visiting Java Island, Indonesia

1. Tourist Crowds

When heading to Java, it’s good to be aware of a few things, and one of the main challenges is definitely the crowds.

Places like Borobudur and Prambanan attract tons of tourists, especially during the high season.

To avoid the crowds, try visiting early in the morning or on weekdays. Even better, go during the off-season (from May to October).

If you’re looking to skip the crowds altogether, check out less-visited spots like Candi Sukuh temple or the beaches in Pangandaran. These are great alternatives to enjoy Java without all the hustle.

2. Traffic and Travel Hurdles

Another thing to keep in mind on Java is the heavy traffic, especially in places like Jakarta and Yogyakarta, where traffic jams are pretty much a given.

To avoid the stress, try planning your sightseeing during non-peak hours and consider using alternative transport like bikes or becaks (rickshaws).

It’ll make getting around way easier. And definitely leave some extra time for travel — trains can be delayed, as I found out the hard way on my trip to Surabaya!

Another thing to watch out for on Java Island is the weather, especially from November to March during the rainy season. You might get caught in a sudden downpour, especially if you’re planning to spend a lot of time outside.

I’ve had that happen to me a few times, but I’ll always remember waiting for the sunset at Borobudur, and then suddenly, the rain just hit.

It’s a good idea to carry a rain jacket and be ready to change plans if needed. That way, even if the weather messes with you, it won’t ruin the fun!
