There is no other place in the world like Tuscany. This wonderful region in Italy really has a lot to offer. Idyllic landscapes, the best vineyards, charming towns and delicious food are just some of its highlights. Therefore, when spending your holidays in Tuscany, be sure to rent a car and go on a trip around the area. Below you will find 5 most beautiful towns in Tuscany that are worth visiting during a day trip. Enjoy reading!

1. Greve in Chianti

The first town worth visiting in Tuscany is the charming Greve in Chianti located in the province of Florence. The name of the village comes from the river flowing through it and the wine region in which it is located, and its main attraction is Piazza Matteotti, a square around which are many medieval buildings, and a Franciscan monastery. To fully indulge in the atmosphere of the town, it is worth dropping in to a delicious coffee in one of the cafes located on the square. The perfect way to start a truly Italian day 😉

2. Montefioralle

The next unique town worth visiting in Tuscany is Montefioralle, beautiful village located among green olive groves and picturesque vineyards. The town is located near Greve in Chianti, and its narrow, atmospheric streets encourage short walks. A magical place, definitely worth a visit, even for the sights around the village. It is worth planning your visit in March, when Festa di Fritelle takes place on the outskirts of the town, where you can enjoy various local delicacies. As there are few parking spaces in the village, you should consider walking from Greve in Chianti, which should not take more than 30 minutes.

3. Panzano in Chianti

Another must-visit town in Tuscany is located almost 500 m a.s.l. Panzano in Chianti. This town is known mainly from the Vino al Vino festival held here every third weekend of September and the premises of the famous butcher Dario Cecchini, where you can taste the perfect bistecca alla fiorentina. Other attractions of the town are the medieval castle, which is also the oldest and tallest building in Panzano, and the nearby church of San Leolino, where you can admire the works of artists such as Giovanni della Robbia or Raffaelino del Garbo.

4. Radda in Chianti

After visiting Panzano, head further south to the medieval village of Radda in Chianti. This town captivates with its narrow streets and tempts with smells wafting from the gardens of the restaurants on the main square. Be sure to drop by for dinner at the La Bottega di Giovannino restaurant. I recommend trying such dishes as: traditional thick ribollita bean soup, ravioli with ricotta in aromatic sage sauce, gnocchi with mushrooms and panna cotta with fruit. All dishes here are delicious, and a glass of red wine perfectly complements their taste.

5. Monteriggioni

The last place on our list is the beautiful town of Monteriggioni, located on a majestic hill. This place boasts an impressive fortress, which, together with fourteen towers, was built by the inhabitants of Siena in the early 13th century. The main function of the fortress was to defend against the attacks of invaders from nearby Florence and Volterra (the fortress remained unconquered for nearly several hundred years!). The whole town can be bypassed in just a dozen or so minutes, but it’s worth staying for longer (at least because of the delicious ice cream at Gelateria La Bottega del Castello;)). Particularly noteworthy is the main square, Piazza Roma, together with the Romanesque church of Santa Maria Assunta, as well as the perfectly preserved defensive walls of the city, on which platforms for tourists were built (entrance additionally payable), from which you can enjoy unforgettable views of the entire area. The town is so beautiful and charming that over the years it has been the background for many movies and commercials, as well as well-known computer games. Dante himself mentioned the city in his “Divine Comedy”. Well, having such views in front of your eyes is not surprising…
