From the paradise island of Koh Samui we will move back to the mainland. Ahead of us was the last point of our journey around the Land of Smiles – the bustling town of Krabi, the capital of one of the most beautiful provinces of Thailand. It is here, among the majestic green hills, that world-famous beaches are hidden, such as the phenomenal Railay, Ao Nang or Noppharat Thara. How to get to Krabi? Where to stay and where to eat in this city? Why is Ao Nang the perfect sunset spot? You will learn this and much more by reading this post.

How to get to and where to sleep in Krabi?

That day we got up early in the morning. For the last time, we have been serving breakfast at the hotel restaurant with wonderful sea views. We said goodbye to Lamai Beach, ordered a taxi and before 9 am we were already at the Bangrak Pier. We boarded our ferry and sailed towards the continent. In front of us was an almost half an hour crossing to Donsak Pier, from where the bus to Krabi was waiting. After three hours of daring Thai driving, we finally got to the place and checked into our hotel. During our stay in Krabi we stayed at the guesthouse U Residence located on main street Utarakit Rd.

Where to eat in Krabi Town?

U Residence Hotel is located 2 km from Klong Jirad Marina and just 300 meters from the famous night market. The boutique decor and intimate atmosphere made us feel right at home. We threw heavy luggage from our backs, took a quick shower, and we went to the city in search of good, authentic food. After a brief discernment, we finally got to serving Sino-Thai specialties restaurant Ko Tung.

The Ko Tung menu includes both stir-fried chicken, stewed pork, spicy and sour gaeng som pla soup characteristic for southern Thai region and crab curry with rice noodles. After a moment of reflection we decided to order a traditional Tom Yum soup, seafood curry and refreshing lemonade. For dessert we went to the recommended Easy Cafe where in addition to sweetness we also tried the local aromatic coffee which immediately put us on our feet.

Sunset in Ao Nang

In the afternoon we decided to go to Ao Nang, a resort less than 20 km from Krabi. We were not fooled by the local taxi drivers who tried to convince us that no bus to Ao Nang would depart today. We easily managed to catch a local songthaew and for only 50 bahts per person and we set off towards the coast to be in less than forty minutes on the spot.

The town of Ao Nang did not impress us. At first glance it is apparent that it is geared mainly on tourists and therefore it lacks local climate. The main street stretching along the beach is dominated by restaurants, loud pubs and shops offering expensive souvenirs. It is also easy to come across the nagging ladyboys.

But despite this commercial enclave, we have to admit that the sunset view on the golden Ao Nang beach will remain in our memory for a long time. Colorful boats moored along the shore offer access to nearby islands and the paradise Railay beach. The setting sun reflecting in the calm waters of the Andaman Sea combined with the intense colors creates a beautiful spectacle. It was so beautiful that we never parted with the camera! These views are worth traveling for! If you want to go to the beach in Ao Nang, then only at sunset!
